On too much coffee

My coffee journey was long and thorny – I went from instant coffee with copious amounts of sugar and pumpkin spice lattes from Starbucks to dark roast batch brews, then to flat whites and cortados, then to Nespresso capsules and double espresso shots, and eventually settled on (mainly) filter coffee.

The majority of this journey has stretched over the last half a decade, partly thanks to the pandemic where most coffee shops were closed or hardly accessible, so I've ended up learning a lot from Youtube videos and books, and if I were to highlight one person it'd be James Hoffmann, probably the single most influentual person in the coffee world these days.

Last week he was running a live tasting session of decaf beans – that is, normal coffee beans decaffeinated in three different ways – and I was lucky to grab one of the tasting kits:
